A tier card that gets barbershop and salon clients back sooner
Barbers and hair salons rarely lose clients on the first visit; it starts when the second visit slips. A tier-based digital loyalty card sets a clear rule for which visit unlocks which perk.

Barbershops and hair salons rarely lose a client on the first visit. It starts when the second visit gets pushed back. That's exactly where a salon loyalty card helps: instead of trying to win the client over every month, you set a clear rule for which visit unlocks which perk.
In this post I cover how a tier card differs from a stamp card, the order to set it up in and which perks actually work for barbers and salons.
How a tier card differs from a stamp card
With a stamp card, everyone works towards the same goal: eight stamps, then a reward. With a tier card, clients move up a level as they keep coming, and the perks get bigger at higher tiers. For barbers and salons this matters: the service is high-value and the client base relatively small, so what really counts is how often people come back.
When you set up the tiers, decide three things:
- How many visits it takes to reach each tier
- What clients get at each tier
- Whether a tier is permanent or drops after a while
How to set up a salon loyalty card
Setup in the dashboard takes five steps:
- Choose tier as the card type.
- Set the visit threshold, for example three visits per tier.
- Assign perks to each tier.
- Place the QR table card at the till and next to the mirror.
- Teach your team two lines: do you have a card? If not, just scan the QR code.
Print-ready table card and poster templates are ready in the dashboard; add your logo and print. Clients don't download an app: they scan the QR code with their phone camera and the card drops into Apple Wallet.
How to choose the visit threshold
If a client comes in roughly every four weeks, a threshold of three visits means they reach the first tier after about three months. For some businesses that's too long. Check your appointment book, measure the real gap between visits and set the threshold to match. These numbers are just examples; your own data is what counts.
Flexible booking builds more loyalty than discounts
The most common mistake at barbers and salons is tying tiers only to discounts. What clients value most is their time. Put perks like these into your tiers:
- Priority booking at busy times
- Care reminders for clients on higher tiers
- First access to try a new service
Perks like these can cost you less than a discount, and clients often value them more. If you want to send promotional messages, for example via WhatsApp, only contact clients who have given explicit consent under GDPR.
What changes at the till
The client scans the QR code at the till or by the mirror, and the card drops into Apple Wallet. Your staff log the visit on their own screen; since no payment card details are needed, checkout doesn't take any longer. If the client gets a new phone, they simply add the card to Apple Wallet again, and you don't have to print anything.
The three numbers to watch
- Clients who saved the card
- Visits per client per month
- Clients who moved up a tier
All three show live in the dashboard, and staff tracking shows who logged each visit. The numbers may look low in the first month. Sign-ups grow with how visible the QR code is and whether your staff ask at every payment.
